Clinic

What the School Nurse wants you to know. . .

It might be the last thing on your morning to-do list, or it might not be on your list at all.

But a healthy breakfast refuels your body and jump starts your day. So don’t overlook this important meal. Select healthy options that fit your taste and lifestyle, and put breakfast back into your morning. Breakfast is especially important for children and adolescents. According to the American Dietetic Association, children who eat a healthy breakfast are more likely to have better concentration, problem-solving skills and eye hand coordination. They may also be more alert, creative, and less likely to miss days of school. If your excuse for missing breakfast is lack of time, figure out what you will be eating the night before, go to bed early and get up 10 minutes earlier to enjoy it. Or pack something to take with you. We have been seeing a lot of students in the clinic for stomach aches and the reason usually is that they haven’t had any breakfast. I encourage you to encourage your children to take the time to eat breakfast before coming to school.

Just a reminder Vision screening will be done on all 8th grade students and only7th graders with a referral from a teacher, new to Marion Co. or has an IEP. If you do not wish your student to be screened please contact the clinic( 803-5416) no later than Nov 14th.

Thank-you,

Marjorie Townsend RN

IMPORTANT IMMUNIZATION INFORMATION

Parents—Important Information about Incomplete Immunizations and Exclusion (09/19/11)

In January 2010, the IN State Dept. of Health approved changes in immunization requirements for students entering grades 6-12 for the 2010-11 school year. These additional shots are Tdap, MCV4, and #2 varicella (OR history of chickenpox disease). ALL MS students are affected by the requirements. Parents have received numerous notices via fliers, posters, Connect Ed messages, school newsletters, and the FT website, even if your student was a 5th grader last year.
On Tues. Oct. 4, middle school students without a complete shot record OR a doctor’s appointment to receive the needed shots will be removed from school attendance. Call the Marion Co. Health Dept. at 221-5700 for hours, directions, or to schedule an appointment. Please be aware that school clinics may be unable to print records without 24 hours advance notice. Please fax or deliver completed shot record or appt. card to the clinic at your student’s school.
