It is hard to believe that we have almost reached the end of the 2015 - 2016 school year.  We are now planning for the next school year.  We know that there are going to be a great number of changes this summer before we start back to school on July 27.  If you know that you are going to have a change of address, phone number, or need to modify the information that you have on file, you can now do it online through Infinite Campus.  In order to access this feature you MUST have signed up for access to the parent portal.  If you follow this link:  http://www.ftcsc.k12.in.us/it/32 you will be directed to the IC page.  Once you have access to the portal, please make sure you read the District Announcement Section.

ATTENDANCE LINE:             803-8290

Attendance Policy

When a student is going to be absent from school for any reason, the parent must call the attendance line (803-8290) and report it by 9:00 a.m. Upon returning to school following an absence or absences, the student shall bring a written statement.  The note must contain dates of absences and reason as well as parent/guardian signature.  These statements determine if the absence is excusable.  Failure to report (verbal or written) a student absent within 24 hours will result in the absence being unexcused.  Students will be considered unexcused for all absences other than those stipulated by administrative guidelines, state, or federal statutes.

Parents of current 5th grade students:

Immunizations of meningitis and Tdap are needed for the start of 6th grade.  Please call the doctor now to schedule an appointment prior to the start of school so that your student will have the shots that Indiana requires for middle school.  When you have an appointment date and time, please let the elementary school nurse know so that it can be recorded. Requirements are grade level-based, and not dependent on age of students entering 6th grade.  Call now for the best availability of appointments.

Parents of current high school juniors:

Two doses of meningitis are needed for the start of 12th grade.  Please call your student’s doctor now to schedule an appointment prior to the start of school so that your student will have complete shots as designated by the state of Indiana.  Please call the nurse at 803-8304 to advise her about the date and time of appointment.  Students are expected to have the shots at the beginning of the school year.  Call now for best availability of appointments.

Please follow the links to the immunization charts:

It is amazing what can be found when spending some time on Google.  Most recently we discovered that the official holiday for New Year’s Day in 2017 will be on January 2!  The approved calendar for the 16-17 school year indicated that students in Franklin Township would be returning to school on that day after the winter break.  This new information has caused a shift of days in the calendar.

The link to the calendar shown below will take you to the new version of the calendar with the corrections.  The modification is that students WILL attend school on Friday, December 16.  The teacher work day has been moved to Monday, December 19, 2016.  With this change, students and staff will return to school on Tuesday, January 3, 2017.

Here are today's announcements (2/23): TEP+ Part 1 Testing will begin on Monday, February 27th. You will test with your Math class, English Class, and 6th Science, 7th Social Studies Classes. Your classes for these days will be an extra 10 minutes longer so it is important that you use your passing periods for the RESTROOM and you put up your CELLPHONE in your locker or leave at home. YOU CANNOT BRING A PHONE OR APPLE/SAMSUNG SMARTWATCH INTO THE TESTING ROOM. If you forget - you can let the teacher know and they will give it back to you at the end of the class - just be honest and let them keep it for you. We will test: Math on Monday - bring a calculator and 2 #2 pencils ELA on Tuesday and Thursday bring 2 #2 pencils Friday 6th Science and 7th Social Studies - bring 2 #2 pencils There are a few students that will not test with their Math, English, Science, or Social Studies teachers. You will be notified and receive a testing paper to tell you when and where to report. On testing days - you will also see HOT PINK signs on Doors. If you see a HOT PINK Sign and the door is SHUT - you DO NOT ENTER. Report to the office if you need something or go back to the classroom you came from. Additionally, let's talk about courtesy and respect to our classmates and teachers. You, your classmates, and teachers have worked hard all year long to prepare for this test. It is important that during class time - the hallways are SILENT. On your way to and from lunch, you will be escorted by your teacher - It MUST BE SILENT. During lunch, you will sit with your 4th block classes assigned tables. You will be picked up from those tables and be silent on your way back to class. This is showing respect and courtesy to your PEERS. Make sure you are adhering to this request at all times. Finally, this is your time to shine. Take your time and show the state that YOU have the skills. You are prepared and we know you will be successful. West is PROUD of you! Get a good night’s sleep, eat breakfast, and use the restroom during your passing periods. Come prepared and give yourself positive talks/praises as you step into the testing site. We know you CAN ROCK THIS TEST! Go FLASHES Rule of the Week: BULLYING – FTMS West prohibits bullying in all forms. Students who commit any acts of bullying are subject to disciplinary action. Bullying is defined as overt, unwanted, repeated acts or gestures, including verbal or written communications or images transmitted in any manner (including digitally or electronically); physical acts committed; aggression; or any other behaviors committed by a student or group of students against another student with the intent to harass, ridicule, humiliate, intimidate, or harm the targeted student. Tonight in sports: 7th and 8th-grade Girls Basketball teams play Southport Middle School at home starting at 5:15. 8th Grade Robotics Team has practice today until 4:30 to prepare for State. In celebration of Black History Month, here is an interesting fact: on this day in 1929, baseball catcher Elston Gene Howard was born in St. Louis, Missouri. In 1965, Howard signed a $70,000 contract with the NY Yankees and became the highest paid player in the history of baseball at the time. Today is National Toast Day!
