It is hard to believe that we have almost reached the end of the 2015 - 2016 school year.  We are now planning for the next school year.  We know that there are going to be a great number of changes this summer before we start back to school on July 27.  If you know that you are going to have a change of address, phone number, or need to modify the information that you have on file, you can now do it online through Infinite Campus.  In order to access this feature you MUST have signed up for access to the parent portal.  If you follow this link:  http://www.ftcsc.k12.in.us/it/32 you will be directed to the IC page.  Once you have access to the portal, please make sure you read the District Announcement Section.

ATTENDANCE LINE:             803-8290

Attendance Policy

When a student is going to be absent from school for any reason, the parent must call the attendance line (803-8290) and report it by 9:00 a.m. Upon returning to school following an absence or absences, the student shall bring a written statement.  The note must contain dates of absences and reason as well as parent/guardian signature.  These statements determine if the absence is excusable.  Failure to report (verbal or written) a student absent within 24 hours will result in the absence being unexcused.  Students will be considered unexcused for all absences other than those stipulated by administrative guidelines, state, or federal statutes.

Parents of current 5th grade students:

Immunizations of meningitis and Tdap are needed for the start of 6th grade.  Please call the doctor now to schedule an appointment prior to the start of school so that your student will have the shots that Indiana requires for middle school.  When you have an appointment date and time, please let the elementary school nurse know so that it can be recorded. Requirements are grade level-based, and not dependent on age of students entering 6th grade.  Call now for the best availability of appointments.

Parents of current high school juniors:

Two doses of meningitis are needed for the start of 12th grade.  Please call your student’s doctor now to schedule an appointment prior to the start of school so that your student will have complete shots as designated by the state of Indiana.  Please call the nurse at 803-8304 to advise her about the date and time of appointment.  Students are expected to have the shots at the beginning of the school year.  Call now for best availability of appointments.

Please follow the links to the immunization charts:

It is amazing what can be found when spending some time on Google.  Most recently we discovered that the official holiday for New Year’s Day in 2017 will be on January 2!  The approved calendar for the 16-17 school year indicated that students in Franklin Township would be returning to school on that day after the winter break.  This new information has caused a shift of days in the calendar.

The link to the calendar shown below will take you to the new version of the calendar with the corrections.  The modification is that students WILL attend school on Friday, December 16.  The teacher work day has been moved to Monday, December 19, 2016.  With this change, students and staff will return to school on Tuesday, January 3, 2017.

Here are today's announcements (3/17): Vote in Round 2 of our March Literacy Madness tournament! Check out the bulletin board outside the library to see who has moved on, and vote on which characters you think are the most LOYAL. Voting for this round will end on April 5th. As a reminder, if you are interested in the EPIC LIP SYNC BATTLES, please pick-up a permission slip on the stage in the cafeteria. Students must fill-out this form, have it signed, and return it to the collection box in the cafeteria no later than TODAY. Entries for lip sync battles will not be accepted after Spring Break. This week we celebrate with our 3rd Quarter S.T.A.R. Spirit Days! Everyday we have $1 Electronic Lunch---pay outside the cafeteria. Today is Bling Green for St. Patrick’s Day! Rule of the week: ENCOURAGING/INSTIGATING VIOLATIONS – Students who encourage or instigate other students to violate school rules will be subject to consequences. Included in this clause are students who make an intentional effort to watch, observe and/or videotape any verbal and/or physical altercations. Let’s be better than this, let’s make West a safe place to be by helping separate students who are arguing or telling a staff member when we hear rumors of a fight. It is disturbing when a fight breaks out to have 20 students standing around, watching and not intervening to help stop the cycle of violence. A Safe School is EVERYONE’S responsibility…SEE something, say something. HEAR something, say something. Did you know today is National Corned Beef and Cabbage Day?
