It is hard to believe that we have almost reached the end of the 2015 - 2016 school year. We are now planning for the next school year. We know that there are going to be a great number of changes this summer before we start back to school on July 27. If you know that you are going to have a change of address, phone number, or need to modify the information that you have on file, you can now do it online through Infinite Campus. In order to access this feature you MUST have signed up for access to the parent portal. If you follow this link: http://www.ftcsc.k12.in.us/it/32 you will be directed to the IC page. Once you have access to the portal, please make sure you read the District Announcement Section.

ATTENDANCE LINE: 803-8290
When a student is going to be absent from school for any reason, the parent must call the attendance line (803-8290) and report it by 9:00 a.m. Upon returning to school following an absence or absences, the student shall bring a written statement. The note must contain dates of absences and reason as well as parent/guardian signature. These statements determine if the absence is excusable. Failure to report (verbal or written) a student absent within 24 hours will result in the absence being unexcused. Students will be considered unexcused for all absences other than those stipulated by administrative guidelines, state, or federal statutes.

Parents of current 5th grade students:
Immunizations of meningitis and Tdap are needed for the start of 6th grade. Please call the doctor now to schedule an appointment prior to the start of school so that your student will have the shots that Indiana requires for middle school. When you have an appointment date and time, please let the elementary school nurse know so that it can be recorded. Requirements are grade level-based, and not dependent on age of students entering 6th grade. Call now for the best availability of appointments.
Parents of current high school juniors:
Two doses of meningitis are needed for the start of 12th grade. Please call your student’s doctor now to schedule an appointment prior to the start of school so that your student will have complete shots as designated by the state of Indiana. Please call the nurse at 803-8304 to advise her about the date and time of appointment. Students are expected to have the shots at the beginning of the school year. West is excited to have Abby Barnett serving as our choir director! "Abby Barnett is a 2014 graduate of Butler University. She is originally from Frankfort, IN and attended Rossville High School, graduating with a class size of 65! Abby just finished the year as a choir director and general music teacher at Middle School East, which she really enjoyed. She is excited to join West and get to know the choir students here, too! Abby's favorite part about teaching is connecting with students. Finding out their stories and what inspires them is fun AND helps her create engaging plans in the classroom! Abby is entering her third year of teaching and is eager to get started."

Welcome our new 8th Grade Pre-algebra and Algebra 2 teacher, Ashlyn Havens! I grew up in Northern Indiana. I received my Bachelor of Science in Mathematics Education from Bethel College in Mishawaka, Indiana. This will be my third year teaching middle school math, and my first with Franklin Township Middle School West. I love to travel, and my favorite destination, so far, has been Ireland. Within the United States, my favorite location is the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina. This mansion reminds me of my favorite BBC series, Downton Abbey. Theatre is one my favorite interests. I enjoy being in the audience, and working on shows. My various jobs in the theatre world have been costumes, hair & makeup, and Assistant Director. I have six siblings, three sisters and three brothers, of which I am the second youngest. I have been longing to move to a bigger city near Indianapolis, and am excited to begin this new chapter with West.

Tomorrow evening FMTS West will host our annual Flash Focus providing students with a chance to come to West to get their schedules, try their lockers, walk the building, HAVE YOUR SCHOOL PICTURE TAKEN by Lifetouch, and gather important information (along with several other things). As we have done in the past, Flash Focus is divided into two sections. We ask that you please attend the session that best meets your student’s current grade status at West. JULY 19th (6th Grade only) Session 1: 11:00 am-2:00 pm BREAK: 2:00 pm-5:00 pm Session 2: 5:00 pm-8:00 pm o 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm 6th Grade Orientation is a special event taking place during Flash Focus on July 19th. West student ambassadors will be present from 6-7 pm on July 19 to meet 6th graders and work with them on team building, a scavenger hunt, and other fun activities. Student ambassadors play a key role in helping new 6th graders adjust to middle school, and we would love to help you get to know them and one another before school starts. This special activity if for students only. Students and their parents are welcome to plan their visit around this event in the evening with plenty of opportunity to visit classrooms, pick up forms and handouts and practice with their locker as well. JULY 20th (All students) Session 1: 11:00 am-2:00 pm BREAK: 2:00 pm-5:00 pm Session 2: 5:00 pm-8:00 pm We are looking forward to seeing everyone in the next two days! Don’t forget to dress for a great school picture!
