Parents of current 5th grade students:
Immunizations of meningitis and Tdap are needed for the start of 6th grade. Please call the doctor now to schedule an appointment prior to the start of school so that your student will have the shots that Indiana requires for middle school. When you have an appointment date and time, please let the elementary school nurse know so that it can be recorded. Requirements are grade level-based, and not dependent on age of students entering 6th grade. Call now for the best availability of appointments.
Parents of current high school juniors:
Two doses of meningitis are needed for the start of 12th grade. Please call your student’s doctor now to schedule an appointment prior to the start of school so that your student will have complete shots as designated by the state of Indiana. Please call the nurse at 803-8304 to advise her about the date and time of appointment. Students are expected to have the shots at the beginning of the school year. It is amazing what can be found when spending some time on Google. Most recently we discovered that the official holiday for New Year’s Day in 2017 will be on January 2! The approved calendar for the 16-17 school year indicated that students in Franklin Township would be returning to school on that day after the winter break. This new information has caused a shift of days in the calendar.
The link to the calendar shown below will take you to the new version of the calendar with the corrections. The modification is that students WILL attend school on Friday, December 16. The teacher work day has been moved to Monday, December 19, 2016. With this change, students and staff will return to school on Tuesday, January 3, 2017.

Report cards will be sent home today!!! Please note that the report cards themselves will look a little different. Based on parent feedback, report cards will only include final grades. This removes a lot of the clutter and resulting confusion with all of the different terms IC includes. For this 9 weeks, you will only see the final quarterly grades for core courses as well as Band, Choir, or Orchestra. Midterm grades for other related arts courses can be viewed via the Infinite Campus parent portal.

The Franklin Township Middle School East World Cultures Club & 6th grade PRIDE classes hosted Japan 'Peace' Fellow sponsored by the National Consortium of Teaching About Asia, Mrs. Lisa Laker, who is also a teacher at Franklin Central High School on September 27. Students learned about Japanese culture and tried their hand at calligraphy, paper crane origami, and Zen meditation during the workshops. Students learned to bow out of respect, and they plan to practice it with their teachers and Principal Huotari! The main message of the workshop was to spread the spirit of peace! FTMS East World Cultures Club is sponsored by Mr. Matt Laker, who wore a Hanshin Tigers jersey and hat to showcase the Japanese love of baseball--just like Mr. Laker!

We need your help! The Walkathon is next week and we are way behind on donations. The goal is to make Ava's Disney Wish come true and to purchase an iPad mini and headphones for a 3 year old boy currently in an Indianapolis hospital. Pass this along to anyone you think might be able to help. #arianastrong https://squareup.com/store/franklin-township-middle-school-east

Recently, East Student Makinzee Thomas found out that she will be a torchbearer for the Indiana Bicentennial Celebration, carrying the torch along side Dr. Richard Schriener who served as Pediatric Chair and Physician-In-Chief for Riley Hospital from 1987-2009 when he retired. At the time of his retirement, Dr. Richard Schriener was the longest-serving pediatric department chair in the country. They will be carrying the torch on October 15th from 9:15-9:35 a.m at Marian University starting at the Medical School and ending at the Universities exit on Cold Spring Road. The University is planning a community celebration for people to gather and celebrate the Bicentennial and to cheer on the torchbearers. Any and all are welcome to come help cheer on Makinzee in her journey of celebrating the wonderful life and beautiful spirit of her dear friend Ariana and helping her legacy live on.
