FTCSC is celebrating COLLEGE GO WEEK. Want to learn more? Resources are available at: http://www.in.gov/learnmoreindiana/ At Thompson Crossing Elementary, students in first grade learned about careers during social studies and wrote a story to share with the class about what they wanted to do when they got older. This first grader shared with her class about her desire to be a farmer.

We had a phenomenal Beast Day last Friday to kick off our all school fundraiser. We have made a major change this year with dropping the traditional brochure fundraiser. Our walkathon will be October 8th. All students who raise $10 will go out to the athletic complex to participate in the walkathon. Each grade level will have a designated time which will include music and other things. Our plan was to hold more than just a fundraiser but an event that would raise money while building community at East. DONATE TODAY!!!

FTMS East is excited to announce our 1st Annual BEast STRONG Walkathon Challenge! Today students received information on our all school fundraiser. This year we will be doing a walkathon on October 8th (rain date Oct 10th) in place of our traditional brochure fundraiser. 100% of donations will go back to East for classroom supplies, student recognition, the arts, clubs, etc. This walkathon is a flat donation event and not a per lap pledge. We have many businesses in the community that have partnered with us to provide several raffle prizes for students that raise $25 or more. Please take a look at the information that your student will bring home today. Please note that in addition to cash/check donations, we also have an online site where donations can be made as well. If you have questions please contact Amy Miller at 803-8103 or firstname.lastname@example.org. We will feature a walkathon recap in our November newsletter to showcase our students and community partners. FTMS East thanks you for your support! Amy M. Miller Assistant Principal **Additional forms and information can be found on our website. www.ftcsc.k12.in.us/ftmse

September 21-27, 2014 is Banned Books Week. Banned Books Week is a celebration of your Freedom to Read. As a reader, it is your choice to read from a manners of genres, ideas and viewpoints. According to the American Library Association, “A challenge is an attempt to remove or restrict materials, based upon the objections of a person or group. A banning is the removal of those materials. Challenges do not simply involve a person expressing a point of view; rather, they are an attempt to remove material from the curriculum or library, thereby restricting the access of others. As such, they are a threat to freedom of speech and choice.” (American Library Association) So stop by the FTMS East Media Center to celebrate your Freedom to Read!
