History of District
The Franklin Township Community School Corporation serves the southeast corner of Marion County, as well as approximately 400 students living in a northern Indianapolis district. In 1990, the population for the township was 21,458. By 2000, the population had grown nearly 30 percent to 32,080. Franklin Central High School anticipates a growth rate of 14% each year for the next 8-10 years. The total enrollment for the school district in 2009-2010 was 8,933.
School Characteristics
Franklin Central is a public comprehensive four-year high school. This campus is located on 34.5 acres shared with Franklin Township Middle School West and the School Corporation Administrative Center. The student body is 17% minority: 7% African American, 3% Hispanic, 3% Asian, 4% Multiracial. Roughly 26% of the students are afforded the free or reduced lunch program.
Franklin Central is a member of a centralized consortium for career education. Central Nine Career Education Center is a separate facility in Greenwood, Indiana which houses all career and technical programs. Approximately 200 upperclassmen take advantage of this Center annually.
Franklin Central serves approximately 2600 students in grades 9, 10, 11 and 12. The faculty consists of 119 certified faculty, 62% of whom have earned masters or advanced degrees. The graduation rate at Franklin Central is 81.1%.
The school year consists of 182 days divided into two semesters. The school day has seven 52-minute class periods.
Accreditation
Franklin Central is a member of the State of Indiana Continuous First Class Commission and a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools.
Class rank is computed at the end of each semester from credits earned in all courses
and total grade points. Honors and advanced placement courses are weighted. Grade Point Average is based on a traditional 4-point scale.
