It is amazing what can be found when spending some time on Google.  Most recently we discovered that the official holiday for New Year’s Day in 2017 will be on January 2!  The approved calendar for the 16-17 school year indicated that students in Franklin Township would be returning to school on that day after the winter break.  This new information has caused a shift of days in the calendar.

The link to the calendar shown below will take you to the new version of the calendar with the corrections.  The modification is that students WILL attend school on Friday, December 16.  The teacher work day has been moved to Monday, December 19, 2016.  With this change, students and staff will return to school on Tuesday, January 3, 2017.

During it's regular meeting on November 23, 2015, the School Board voted to implement Option 2 of the redistricting plan.  This plan was recommended to the Board after many months of gathering data, having community meetings, and working with community members.

This plan will begin with the 2016 - 17 school year.  More information will be released beginning January to those families which are impacted regarding the plan.

Tonight the Board of Education will hear a recommendation from the administrative staff regarding the redistricting / rebalancing program.  The Board will not vote on the recommendation until its next scheduled meeting on November 23.  The school district has sought input from stakeholders.  In addition to meetings at the buildings, it hosted a total of 6 meetings that were designed to share information and solicit information from the community.

The administrative recommendation is that the Board consider implementing Option 2.  Option 2 can be found on the district blogsite  www.ftrebalancing.blogspot.com

The recommendation also asks that:

  • REACH students who attend Thompson Crossing be moved to Kitley Elementary.  Arlington REACH students would remain at Arlington.
  • If there are any students who are currently in 7th grade that would have to move middles schools, they be given the option of being grandfathered.
  • Students who were part of a choice program be returned to the correct elementary school.  The choice program no longer exists.
  • That the current middle school feeder pattern would NOT be changed.

Additional information will be posted on the blogsite on Tuesday after the board meeting.

Franklin Central High School Student Council members were excited to collaborate with the councils from Franklin Township Middle School West and Franklin Township Middle School East during last week's annual Rally for Riley! This event, which focuses on building teamwork and enhancing leadership skills in both middle and high school students, benefits Riley Hospital for Children. This year, students attending the Rally were able to raise over $485, all of which will be donated to the Franklin Central High School Dance Marathon to benefit Riley Hospital patients. The Franklin Township Student Councils would like to thank local business owner Mr. Tim Amick, of the Southport Rally's, for sponsoring this event.
