West is excited to have Abby Barnett serving as our choir director! "Abby Barnett is a 2014 graduate of Butler University. She is originally from Frankfort, IN and attended Rossville High School, graduating with a class size of 65! Abby just finished the year as a choir director and general music teacher at Middle School East, which she really enjoyed. She is excited to join West and get to know the choir students here, too! Abby's favorite part about teaching is connecting with students. Finding out their stories and what inspires them is fun AND helps her create engaging plans in the classroom! Abby is entering her third year of teaching and is eager to get started."

Franklin Central High School Student Council was represented at the Indiana Association of Student Council's Student Leadership Institute this summer at Manchester University. IASC State Executive Board member junior Carson Whitesell as well as freshmen Abbe Hershberger and Lydia Laker honed their leadership skills, participated in workshops, and networked with leaders around the State at this week-long camp. Not only is Indiana celebrating 200 years, but Hoosier Girls State is celebrating its 75th anniversary! Franklin Central High School Seniors Alexa Carr, Addison Laker, and Katie Timperman served as delegates to Hoosier Girls State in June at Trine University sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary. The lady leaders learned the political process, patriotism, and campaigned for elected positions. Alexa was a Nationalist city chairwoman; Addison was elected Mayor of Gunning City, Deputy Clerk, and participated in the Hoosier Girls State Choir; and Katie was elected City Councilwoman and participated in the Nationalist City Platform. The delegates were nominated by the Social Studies Department, submitted essay applications, and interviewed before a panel of Social Studies teachers in order to be considered to represent Franklin Central under the direction of Mrs. Laura Miller. "Hoosier Girls State is a program designed to educate young women of Indiana in the duties, privileges, rights and responsibilities of citizenship. It is a week of living and learning the political system of Indiana through a mythical City, County and State." Alexa, Addison, and Katie would like to thank the American Legion Auxiliary and District Coordinator Ms. Phyllis Clark for sponsoring them during this incredible week of democracy in action! "Raise your voices, raise them high, Sing to Girls State, and here’s why… Look to Girls State and you’ll find Tomorrow’s leaders of mankind." Below is the email that just went out. Although the links will not work on Facebook, I wanted to ensure that everyone was receiving our emails. If you are not, please check your SPAM/Junk folder. If the emails are not there either, send us an email and we will assist. ____________________________________________________ Parents, Summer is winding down. This week's email brings information regarding Flash Focus as well as a new Flash Fundamentals covering our car rider procedures. Enjoy! ***Please note that we are not sending a regular mailer home this year. All information for beginning of the year activities are contained within this email and our website. NEW!!!! Flash Fundamentals: Construction is well underway at East. This is a great thing, however it will slightly alter how our car rider line works. In this episode of Flash Fundamentals Mr. Smith walks you through the car rider line procedures. You can access this episode of Flash Fundamentals by clicking HERE. Previous episodes of Flash Fundamentals can be found HERE. NEW!!!! Flash Focus: There are only 3 days until our first session of Flash Focus. We will welcome 6th graders on Tuesday July 19th from 11-2 and 5-8 and 7th/8th Graders on Wednesday July 20th from 11-2 and 5-8. A schedule of events is on our website (CLICK HERE TO ACCESS THE SCHEDULE) and will also be available in print when you arrive. Below you will find some general information to help the day go smoothly. Parking – parking will be available in the main lot and the East Lot (lot to the right when you pull in the main entrance). You will enter door 1 or door 27. Please do not park in the West lot near the designated construction areas. Book Fees – we can take cash, checks (made out to FTMSE), credit, or debit. It may be helpful to have more than one way to pay in the event that one line is longer than the other. PE Uniforms – PE uniforms are the same as last year for returning students. If you need to purchase a new one they are $16.00. Required Forms – there are required forms that will be available in print when you arrive, but can also be found on our website if you would like to complete them prior to arriving. You can access each set of forms by clicking below. Technology Form Medical Forms School Supplies – Please feel free to bring in any school supplies during Flash Focus to decrease the amount of things students will have to carry on the first day. Students will have their locker and combination on their schedule. Spirit Wear – there will be an online store for spirit wear this year. During Flash Focus there will be samples to see and try on. Check out the spirit wear flyer by clicking HERE. Below is information from our previous emails for ease of accessibility: Lockers - Decorating lockers is a big deal for a lot of our students, especially our new 6th graders. When buying organizational and decorative materials please purchase things that magnetically attach to the lockers. Mirrors that stick to the locker, contact paper, and tape should not be used inside or outside of the locker. From time to time we will adhere things to the outside of the locker using painters tape. For organizational shelves, our lockers measure 11”x11” on the inside. Shelves that are too large will jam and possibly damage the lockers. Scheduling: Schedules are done! However, schedules will not be released to students until Flash Focus (6th grade - July 19th 11-2,5-8; 7th-8th grade July 20th 11-2, 5-8). CHANGES TO MUSIC COURSES CANNOT BE MADE AT THIS POINT. If you have questions about placement in any course feel free to contact us. Flash Focus: Have you checked out our Flash Focus page yet. All the information you need for those days can be found HERE. Calendars and Supply Lists: Up to date calendars and supply lists have been posted to our website. Please note that calendars are constantly changing throughout the summer. We simply wanted to ensure you had at least a draft to plan by. Supply List Calendar Blue/White Calendar (The blue/white calendar is meant to assist students with their related arts rotation. These courses (Band, Choir, Orchestra, General Music, Art, PE, Business, and Health) rotate every other day. More information will come when schedules are picked up. Clubs/Activities: Our clubs/activities list has been updated with flyers for academic team, fall cross county, business professionals of america, snap flash, and chamber orchestra. You can access club/activity information by clicking HERE. Construction: If you have been by East lately you may have noticed construction trailers and fences starting to go up. Ferguson Construction is set to break ground on a new student wing very soon. All work will be contained to the exterior of the West side of the building. This WILL NOT impact our car rider process as only part of the baseball parking lot and the adjacent grass area will be fenced off as a construction site. Construction is set to be complete for the beginning of the 2017-2018 school year. Go Flashes!
