Did you know…

  • Star Express offers only nonfat or lowfat milk daily (skim and 1% milkfat)
  • The majority of the buns, rolls, and biscuits served are made from whole grains rather than enriched flours.
  • We offer entrée salads daily (turkey bacon is used to prepare the BLT Entrée Salad).
  • Spinach is added to various salads to enhance the color and increase nutrient content.
  • Fresh fruit and vegetables are served daily, as well as canned fruit and hot vegetable choices.
  • No fried foods are offered as part of the reimbursable meal.
  • Extra lean Jennie-O turkey and turkey ham are used for deli sandwiches.
  • Turkey pepperoni and salami are used on our popular Italian submarine Sandwich.
  • We serve several breakfast entrées made with whole grains: Pillsbury Mini Pancakes and Mini Bagels, Simply Blues Whole Wheat Breakfast Bun, and Kellogg’s and General Mills cereals.
  • Our Smuckers Uncrustable is now made with 100% whole wheat bread!
  • There are at least two vegetarian options daily to include the Very Veggie Entrée Salad.
  • Baked Corn Puppies are made from turkey rather than pork.
  • Frito Lay BAKED Scoops are used for our Walking Tacos, as opposed to the customary Frito Lay Original Fritos corn chip (a decrease of approx. 5.5g total fat!).
  • Tony's breadsticks and ALL pizzas offered are made with part-skim milk mozzarella cheese.
  • Our pizza are on whole grain crust!
  • The seasoned taco meat is reduced sodium and made from reduced-fat meat (no more than 20% fat).
  • Our spaghetti sauce with meat is reduced sodium and made from reduced-fat meat (no more than 20% fat).
  • Whole Fruit Premium Juice Cups are made from 100% juice with no added artificial colors or flavors.
  • A la carte options meet the USDA Smart Snack Guidelines. They must be a whole grain, fruit, vegetable, protein or dairy product, equal to or less than 200 calories, equal to or less than 230mg of sodium, total fat is equal to or less than 35% of total calories, saturated fat is equal to or less than 10% of total calories and sugar is equal to or less than 35% of total weight.  
  • The snack vending machines found in FTCSC schools are currently serviced by an outside vendor; however, the items offered in student accessible machines meet state guidelines (at least 50% of the food items available for sale at school must qualify as better choice foods).  Please contact the food service office at 862-2411 with any questions/concerns regarding the vending service.
