Immunization Exclusion Date is 10/25/16

Indiana State Dept. of Health published the 2016-17 immunization requirements last winter, and these have been posted on the FTCSC website since Feb. 2016, allowing ample time for parents to schedule appointments prior to the start of school. State law requires shots to be up-to-date on the first day of school. Numerous emails, phone calls, newsletter reminders, and letters have been sent, and the deadline for students having the shots is Tues. Oct. 25. Students will not be allowed to attend on Oct. 25 and after, without a complete shot record. This includes those with a medical or religious objection; exemptions remain in effect for one year only and must be renewed. Please send in a copy of the most recent shots as soon as possible if you have been contacted by the nurse or principal.

Physician appointments will not be accepted UNLESS 6th grade students are not yet 11 years old. These few students should already have an appointment within a week after the birthday. Please be aware that if your student is behind for a well-visit, parents must seek other opportunities for shots, as most providers will not administer shots without a checkup.

The MCHD does not have available appointments prior to the exclusion date, but they do have many walk-in clinics for shots. That schedule is listed here. Please call 221-5700 for the South District office if you have questions or need directions.

Area pharmacies and clinics may be able to immunize your child, but please call first to see if there is a minimum age for administering to younger children, and whether your insurance is accepted. Please also take a copy of the student’s shot record, or the letter from the school nurse with detailed information of what immunizations are needed.

Please act now so that your student does not have any interruption in learning.

It is hard to believe that we have almost reached the end of the 2015 - 2016 school year.  We are now planning for the next school year.  We know that there are going to be a great number of changes this summer before we start back to school on July 27.  If you know that you are going to have a change of address, phone number, or need to modify the information that you have on file, you can now do it online through Infinite Campus.  In order to access this feature you MUST have signed up for access to the parent portal.  If you follow this link:  http://www.ftcsc.k12.in.us/it/32 you will be directed to the IC page.  Once you have access to the portal, please make sure you read the District Announcement Section.

Parents of current 5th grade students:

Immunizations of meningitis and Tdap are needed for the start of 6th grade.  Please call the doctor now to schedule an appointment prior to the start of school so that your student will have the shots that Indiana requires for middle school.  When you have an appointment date and time, please let the elementary school nurse know so that it can be recorded. Requirements are grade level-based, and not dependent on age of students entering 6th grade.  Call now for the best availability of appointments.

Parents of current high school juniors:

Two doses of meningitis are needed for the start of 12th grade.  Please call your student’s doctor now to schedule an appointment prior to the start of school so that your student will have complete shots as designated by the state of Indiana.  Please call the nurse at 803-8304 to advise her about the date and time of appointment.  Students are expected to have the shots at the beginning of the school year.  Call now for best availability of appointments.

Please follow the links to the immunization charts:

It is amazing what can be found when spending some time on Google.  Most recently we discovered that the official holiday for New Year’s Day in 2017 will be on January 2!  The approved calendar for the 16-17 school year indicated that students in Franklin Township would be returning to school on that day after the winter break.  This new information has caused a shift of days in the calendar.

The link to the calendar shown below will take you to the new version of the calendar with the corrections.  The modification is that students WILL attend school on Friday, December 16.  The teacher work day has been moved to Monday, December 19, 2016.  With this change, students and staff will return to school on Tuesday, January 3, 2017.

As most Franklin Township residents are aware, our school system is currently searching for a new superintendent. The school board would like to have your input. There will be a public meeting on Monday, January 23, 2017, from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. at the administration building. At this meeting participants will be given the opportunity to be informed of the criteria for choosing our new superintendent. The meeting will be conducted in a small group format. During these groups, you will be given the guidelines that will be used to select our new leader, and have the opportunity to provide input on the characteristics that you envision the next superintendent would have. Those guidelines are based on the Franklin Township Community School Corporation's Strategic Plan. Following are the four aspects of that plan: --Academic Excellence and Learning - Creating the best possible environment to nurture academic potential --Budget and Operational Systems - Being fiscally responsible Governance and Communication - Focusing on informed communication and decision making --Climate and Culture - Promoting effective and positive relationships among staff, students, parents, and community --These are all strengths that we will be looking for in our new superintendent. We look forward to seeing you the 23rd. -The Franklin Township School Board
