|Assistant Director of Special Education
Mrs. Carmichael-Howell came to Franklin Township in 2011 as special education coordinator. She changed titles in 2015 to be the Assistant Director of Special Education. She previously worked in MSD Wayne Township as special services staff developer and as a speech-language pathologist. Mrs. Carmichael-Howell’s professional background includes working as a speech pathologist in early intervention and at Methodist Hospital. She is a graduate of Indiana State University (Masters of Science) and Butler University (Bachelor of Arts). She completed her licensure coursework for Director of Exceptional Needs at Ball State University. Mrs. Carmichael-Howell is currently the Vice President of Professional Development for the Indiana Speech-Language-Hearing Association and a member of the Indiana Council for Administrators in Special Education.
Roles and Responsbilities:
As Assistant Director of Special Education, Mrs. Carmichael-Howell works with all special education teachers and staff across the district. She is the supervisor of district speech pathology and school psychology programs. Mrs. Carmichael-Howell serves as the preschool coordinator and also as the program supervisor for S.P.A.R.C., our transition to adult life program for special education students. She works on curriculum development and implementation for the Comprehensive Implementation Program (CIP). Mrs. Carmichael-Howell coordinates student testing with the District Test Coordinator for the Alternate Assessment and monitors special education compliance for Individual Education Plans and management of the online software program for writing IEPs (Indiana IEP).
