Beginning January 2015, student midterm reports will be delivered online to parents.  In order to receive your child's midterm report, it will be necessary for you to have a Parent Account (portal) on Infinite Campus. It is easy to do and you can follow the setup procedure by clicking this link:  http://www.ftcsc.k12.in.us/IT/32/.  Having access to the Parent Portal also offers other opportunities.

Information can be accessed on your telephone (apps available in the app stores), your computer, or your tablet.  If you do not have access to a device, please let you school secretary know and they can provide a hard copy to be sent home with your child.

FTCSC will be having the first of two state required evacuation drills starting Monday October 6th, 2014. These drills are designed to help prepare our drivers and the students for the unlikely event of an emergency situation. Please take a moment to discuss the importance of this training with your child and encourage positive participation and teamwork. These drills will be conducted professionally under the schools supervision and will be handled similarly to a fire drill. All students riding will receive verbal and hands on demonstrations of all aspects of emergency situations, equipment, and procedures. Due to safety concerns our specially equipped buses will not be exiting the bus.

Attention Parents: We were recently informed that a magnet was stolen off of daycare vehicle that is used to pick up children from three of our schools.  The daycare owner quickly informed law enforcement and contacted the school district.  We have alerted all of our school to ensure the safety of our students and our police will be taking extra safety precautions.   We alert you to take the same precautions and talk to your children about keeping themselves safe.  You can find a photo of the decal on the district website.

SCHOOL AND COLD WEATHER When is a school delay or closure considered for cold temperatures? Franklin Township uses the hourly temperature predictions for its zip code from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (noaa.gov). If air temperature is predicted by NOAA to be -10 degrees or below (the starting point for wind chill concerns with calm wind) at 7:00 a.m. we will consider a two hour delay for the start of school. If the air temperature is predicted to remain at -10 degrees or below at 9:00 a.m. the school will consider closing. A decision will be made as early as possible. Social media alerts are made first as early as 5:15 AM. Blackboard Connect phone calls to homes occur at approximately 5:45 AM. Like us on Facebook at Franklin Township Community School Corporation Follow us on Twitter @FTCSC or @DrFloraIndy Elementary School students do not go outside for recess when temperatures reach a zero wind chill factor.

Flashes’ Annual Leadership Luncheon: “Summiting the Mountain of Leadership” The Franklin Central High School Student Council hosted the 2nd Annual Leadership Luncheon for 165 participants and guests on Thursday, November 21st. The workshop theme was “Summiting the Mountain of Leadership.” Participants included high school student council members; Franklin Township Middle School East & West 8th graders & administrators; Superintendent Dr. Reichanadter; as well as Principals Kevin Koers, Chase Huotari, & Matthew Vandemark. After Dr. Reichanadter’s motivating opening remarks, participants built a “canned-food-mountain” made from their donations for the local food pantry, SPAARC. Principal Kevin Koers gave the keynote address and said, “Your actions in the past have led somebody, somewhere to identify you as a leader. The question is: do you identify yourself as a leader?” He also went on to remark, “The first sign of a leader is that they care more about others than they do about what others may think of them. Leaders are courageous. They are willing to take a stand…” Students then rotated to five leadership stations that had interactive lessons on avoiding stereotypes; confidence; teambuilding; ethics; and goals. During lunch, students made homemade cards for veterans as well as patients at Riley Hospital for Children. Lunch was generously sponsored by Firehouse Subs Beech Grove and Meijer Southport location. During the afternoon, Class of 2014 Alum Claire Lee ,who entered Purdue University this fall with enough credits from AP classes to be a second-semester sophomore, spoke on developing communication skills as well as stepping up to new opportunities in high school: “ My leadership experiences at Franklin Central have gone beyond preparing me for college and the world at large as they have led me to new and amazing experiences.” The program concluded with a candle lighting (glow sticks) ceremony with the message, “Bring Out the Light in Others” modeled after the Indiana Association of Student Council’s (IASC) annual state convention this year. Facilitators of the leadership workshop included Student Council Seniors Lexie Boor, Maggie Christy, Kenny Cox, Dawson Harris, Madison Hershberger, Ally Smith, Noah Smith and Juniors Zach Johnson and Devin Raters. Franklin Central High School’s Student Council is sponsored by English teachers Mrs. Leslie Appleby and Mrs. Lisa Laker.
