Attention Parents: We were recently informed that a magnet was stolen off of daycare vehicle that is used to pick up children from three of our schools.  The daycare owner quickly informed law enforcement and contacted the school district.  We have alerted all of our school to ensure the safety of our students and our police will be taking extra safety precautions.   We alert you to take the same precautions and talk to your children about keeping themselves safe.  You can find a photo of the decal on the district website.

Great News - FC Athletic Boosters and Ray Skillman provide new helmets to our football team! Thanks to a donation from both the Franklin Central High School Athletic Boosters and Ray Skillman Chevrolet on Post Road, the freshman football team has secured 47 new helmets. A recent study done by Virginia Tech shared information that 47 of our helmets for identified as "adequate". In order to ensure our players have the safest helmets FCHS was able to order replacement helmets for those players. A SPECIAL SHOUT OUT to these donors who believe in the safety of student athletes.

After school, let the kids play outside. Then, come back together for homework and dinner. On the weekends, go to the park, fishing, hiking or on a rock hunt. Playing outside is cheap, fun, and good for the whole family. http://discoverexplorelearn.com/10-ways-playing-outside-makes-kids-smarter/

Dear Parents/Guardians, I hope the school year has been going well for you and your student(s). The reason for this letter is to inform you that FTMSW will be doing some repair to our gym floor over the next few days. Due to some facility issues at the Annex (our athletic competition facility), West has moved all fall, indoor athletic events to our home building on Edgewood. Because of this temporary move our gym surface needs to be conditioned to improve the playing surface for our competitive athletics. Today and tomorrow our gym floor will be stripped of its old surface and receive a new coat of wax. Because of this process our physical education classes will be going outside to participate in outdoor programming. We have instructed our PE staff to be cautious of the heat and weather during these two days. In the even the heat is too extreme they will move their curriculum to an indoor classroom environment. In addition to the relocation of our PE classes students may notice an odor from the freshly applied wax. This odor from the wax is harmless and simply has a smell that is not common to our daily school schedule during our normal school year. This inconvenience will last only a short time, and according to maintenance the odor will dissipate after one week. As we continue through this process we will continually monitor student and staff well-being. Once the process is complete our gym surface will have a new, safer, surface for student activities. We truly appreciate your patience and understanding as we continue to make FTMS West a great place for our students! Sincerely, Matt Vandermark
