As most Franklin Township residents are aware, our school system is currently searching for a new superintendent.  The school board would like to have your input.  There will be a public meeting on Monday, January 23, 2017, from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. at the administration building.

At this meeting participants will be given the opportunity to be informed of the criteria for choosing our new superintendent. The meeting will be conducted in a small group format.  During these groups, you will be given the guidelines that will be used to select our new leader, and have the opportunity to provide input on the characteristics that you envision the next superintendent would have.   Those guidelines are based on the Franklin Township Community School Corporation's Strategic Plan.  Following are the four aspects of that plan:

  • Academic Excellence and Learning - Creating the best possible environment to nurture academic potential
  • Budget and Operational Systems - Being fiscally responsible
  • Governance and Communication - Focusing on informed communication and decision making
  • Climate and Culture - Promoting effective and positive relationships among staff, students, parents, and community

These are all strengths that we will be looking for in our new superintendent.  We look forward to seeing you the 23rd.

-The Franklin Township School Board

Dear Parent or Guardian: Beginning June 19th your student’s preliminary Spring 2017 ISTEP+ results will be available for you to review through the ISTEP+ Parent Portal. Through the Parent Portal, you will be able to review your student’s current score, performance level (Pass+, Pass, or Did Not Pass), and written responses to ISTEP+ Part 1 questions for each subject area of your student’s test. After reviewing this information, if you believe the score does not accurately reflect your student's response you may request that the solution be re-scored for higher marks. The Parent Portal can be accessed June 19th through July 7th at https://results.pearsonaccessnext.com/ using a standard web browser. The Parent Portal will be deactivated from July 8th – July 30th for final results reporting. Important: A student CLAIM CODE is required to access student response in the Parent Portal. To ensure the protection of your student’s privacy, claim codes are only accessible through Infinite Campus. Each student’s code is specific to him/her. If you have more than one student who took the ISTEP+ assessment, each child will have a different code. If you have trouble retrieving your claim code please contact your student’s school. Please note the following: Claim Codes are case sensitive. Enter the characters exactly as they appear in Infinite Campus. Detailed instructions for using the ISTEP+ Parent Portal will be available on the login page. If the performance level for a test is shown as Undetermined, your student’s Part 1 and/or Part 2 test for that subject area may have been incomplete, not taken, missing, or not matched. In this case, written responses may or may not be available to view. Images taken from braille, large print, or loose-leaf computer-generated documents may show responses to multiple questions. In these cases, only the parts related to each question were used in scoring. Part 1 scoring rubrics are available on the following IDOE websites. http://www.doe.in.gov/assessment/istep-grades-3-8 If a score is shown as Undetermined (UND) and you have reason to believe this is an error, or you have questions about the responses shown for your student, please contact FTCSC. The Indiana Department of Education announced the 2016 Advanced Placement (AP) Award Recipients. To be selected, schools must have at least 25 percent of their 2016 graduating class receiving a 3, 4, or 5 on an AP exam. “Research tells us time and again taking and passing AP courses prepares students for the rigors of the college classroom,” said Dr. Jennifer McCormick, Indiana Superintendent of Public Instruction. “I am pleased with the dedication these schools and their educators have shown in providing a head start into higher education for their students. I applaud the success of each student who worked hard to study and pass their advanced placement courses and exams.” AP is a research-backed method to facilitate student participation and success through delivery of college-level courses and corresponding exams in the high school setting. Qualified students who pass AP courses enroll in college at higher rates than other groups of students, require significantly less remediation, and have higher average first year grade point averages and credit hours earned than other groups of students. For the 2015-16 school year, 11,904 graduating students passed at least one AP exam with a 3 or better. This is an increase of six percent over the year prior, and an increase of 114 percent in the past 10 years. An award ceremony took place on June 14, 2017, from 1:30-in the North Atrium of the Indiana Statehouse. Pictured with the Indiana Superintendent of Public Instruction, Dr. Jennifer McCormick is Franklin Township Community Schools Interim Superintendent, David Shaffer, Indiana Representative Mike Speedy and Franklin Central High School Principal, Kevin Koers For a complete list of awarded schools, please visit: www.doe.in.gov/sites/default/files/news/ap_recognition_event.pdf.

Last night the boys track and field team competed at the Warren Central Regional meet. The Flashes competed tough in 11 of the 16 events to finish a respectable 6th place overall as a team. All the athletes put in solid performances to help us finish 6th. With that being said, the following individuals stepped up to the challenge and punched their ticket to the IHSAA State Finals! 4x800 M Relay - Trey Perry, Mitchell Parrish, Noah Amberger, and Michael Parrish - Finished 2nd place overall, and running a 10 sec PR (8:09) to start the night off with a bang. 100 M Dash - Kyle Markland - Finished 4th place overall, but ran the State Standard 11.05 in the Finals. Ran 10.93 in the Prelims to put him tied for 2nd all-time in school history in the 100 M Dash 200 M Dash - Kyle Markland - Finished 4th place overall, but ran fast enough (22.46) to get a callback. This time puts him 9th all-time in school history in the 200 M Dash 110 M Hurdles - Raekwon Wilkins - Finished 4th place overall, but ran 14.68 which is faster than the State Standard (14.81) to qualify. Other quality performances were put in by Kendal Kendrick who finished 4th, just missing qualifying by 5 inches. Malachi Quarles who PR'd in the 300 M Hurdles running 40.23 which lowers his 2nd fastest time in school history in that event. The Boys State Finals will be next Friday down in Bloomington at IU's track and field facility. 4x800 M Relay starts at 4:15 PM followed by the 100 M Dash Prelims at 5:00 PM, 110 M Hurdles Prelims at 5:15 PM, and 200 M Dash Prelims at 5:40 PM. Congratulations Flashes! Best of luck in the State Finals!
