Dear Parents/Guardians of Franklin Township Students:

On behalf of the Franklin Township Community School Corporation, I would like to address the
release of the 2015-2016 School Report Card Grades assigned by the Indiana Department of
Education. The scores from the spring 2016 assessment are now public information.
As you are aware, the Indiana Depruiment of Education (IDOE) used a high stakes test, ISTEP+,
for students in grades 3-8 and 10. This year, not only did the state change test vendors from the
2015 year, but it also added College and Career Readiness Standards to the exam. In addition,
the IDOE decided to give equal weights to student growth and performance. One aspect of the
assessment system that remained a constant is the assignment of corporation and school grades
ranging from A to F. This year our corporation earned a grade of B.

We realize many families use district grades as a way of evaluating and comparing the
effectiveness of districts' instructional programs. Please keep in mind that our corporation has
worked endlessly to align our curriculum to new state standards. Many of our schools have been
recognized for outstanding academic programs; consequently, some of our instrnctional leaders
have received awards and accolades for student performance. However, we want to inform you
of our intent to continue using strategic planning processes to progress monitor our instructional
programs. We aim to provide the best opportunity for our graduates to be ready for careers or
college to be competitive with other students of the 21st Century. All of our staff are committed
to making sure that Franklin Township Community School Corporation remains a district that
makes you proud.

Your building principal has addressed your school's specific grade in a separate communication.
We are thankful for your continued support. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to
contact me: sheila.sherman@ftcsc.k12.in.us or at (317) 862-2411.

Dr. Sheila L. Sherman
Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment

As most Franklin Township residents are aware, our school system is currently searching for a new superintendent.  The school board would like to have your input.  There will be a public meeting on Monday, January 23, 2017, from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. at the administration building.

At this meeting participants will be given the opportunity to be informed of the criteria for choosing our new superintendent. The meeting will be conducted in a small group format.  During these groups, you will be given the guidelines that will be used to select our new leader, and have the opportunity to provide input on the characteristics that you envision the next superintendent would have.   Those guidelines are based on the Franklin Township Community School Corporation's Strategic Plan.  Following are the four aspects of that plan:

  • Academic Excellence and Learning - Creating the best possible environment to nurture academic potential
  • Budget and Operational Systems - Being fiscally responsible
  • Governance and Communication - Focusing on informed communication and decision making
  • Climate and Culture - Promoting effective and positive relationships among staff, students, parents, and community

These are all strengths that we will be looking for in our new superintendent.  We look forward to seeing you the 23rd.

Speak Up Survey

Please visit the SpeakUp survey website, search for your school (or district), and complete the survey.

Speak Up

Recently, Franklin Township was awarded a grant to assist with the implementation of technology in our classrooms.  As part of that grant, we are required to ask our students, parents, and employees to participate in the national SpeakUp Survey.  This survey asks questions regarding access to technology, home internet connection, and other related questions.  The data gathered by this non-profit organization is used to help guide schools, states, and the federal government in their support of students and the use of technology as a resource.
