The rebalancing timeline for communication to the subdivisions that will be changing schools (Lakeland Trails, Timberfield, Franklin Parke, and Franklin Trace) was presented to the Board of Education at its regular meeting on Monday, January 12.  This timeline is the roadmap as to when communication and school visitations will occur for those subdivision that are impacted by Step 2 of the rebalancing/redistricting plan. Step 2, already approved by the Board, will be for the 2015 - 16 school years.

Step 3 will be a large movement of students and will most likely impacted much of the school district.  The work and data collection for the the "big one" will begin in the spring of 2015.  This major move is slated for the 2016 - 17 school years. The school district will communicate information via the website, FaceBook, Twitter, local media, and school/district newsletters.

Dear Families, To better protect our students and staff, Franklin Township Community Schools is implementing the Raptor visitor management system. Raptor enables schools to produce visitor badges and electronically check all visitors against registered sex/violent offender databases. The overall goal of this system is to increase the safety of our schools. Volunteers will still need to complete a background check, in advance. Please be prepared to show a valid, government-issued ID each time you visit our schools. More information about Raptor can be found at www.raptorware.com

New Kitley Information: *PARTIES/GIFTS/BIRTHDAYS* We appreciate and celebrate birthdays at Kitley Elementary. Parents are encouraged to bring goodies (bookmarks, pencils, stickers, donations of books to a classroom, goodie bags, etc…) instead of edible treats. Due to the number of food allergies, edible treats will no longer be allowed at parties and/or birthday celebrations. Our school district is also latex free, therefore, we cannot accept balloons into our facilities. Furthermore, to avoid hurt feelings, students may only pass out private party invitations to parties at school if the entire class is being invited. *RAPTOR SYSTEM* Safety of our students is Kitley’s highest priority. Therefore, FTCSC now has the RAPTOR system for visitor check-in. RAPTOR is a visitor registration systems that enhances school security by reading visitor drivers’ licenses, comparing information to multiple offender databases and alerting FTCSC and Kitley if a match is found. If, however, a match is not found, RAPTOR will print a visitor badge that includes a photo, name of the visitor, and the time and date of the visit. Therefore, RAPTOR will provide a consistent system to track visitors and volunteers while keeping away people who present a danger to students and staff at Kitley Elementary. *STUDENT PLACEMENT LETTERS* Many Kitley parents have recently inquired about their student’s teacher. Kitley sent out placement letters to every student except for 2nd grade yesterday. 2nd grade letters were sent out today. Thank you for your patience, as those should be arriving soon in your mailboxes!

Governor Mike Pence today announced the winners of the 2015 Mr. and Miss Math and Science awards. The Mr. and Miss Math and Science awards aim to recognize students who have exemplary performance in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) classes and extracurricular activities. The winners receive a $1,000 college scholarship through Indiana’s CollegeChoice 529 Direct Savings Plan. Margaret “Maggie” Christy, 2015 Miss Math, recently graduated from Franklin Central High School in Indianapolis, where she was named an AP Scholar, Co-President of the Student Council and National Honor Society member. She received the National Center for Women & Information Technology Aspirations in Computing Award and the Top 10 Award for finishing in the top ten of her class all four years of high school. Christy volunteers as a “buddy” with children who have special needs during Parent Night Out events at Indian Creek Christian Church Access Ministry. She plans to study actuarial science and applied statistics at Purdue University in the fall. We are very proud of Maggie. She is most deserving of this recognition. Maggie not only excelled academically at Franklin Central but established herself as a true servant leader who motivated and inspired all students to achieve at the highest level! Congratulations Maggie. Best of luck as you continue your academic career at Purdue.

We have a connect ed going out tomorrow, but here is a couple of additional pieces of information regarding Flash Focus: __________________________________________________ Parents, Flash Focus is less than a week away! Join us on July 21st (6th grade) and July 22nd (7th and 8th grade) from 11-2 or 5-8 here at Middle School East. During each of the sessions students and parents will be able to pick-up schedules, pay book rental, receive text books, and have an opportunity to tour the building with the help of our student ambassadors. Last year more than 95% of our students attended Flash Focus, and we expect a similar turn out this year. To maximize your time, we suggest, 1) paying textbook rental with cash or check rather than a credit card (we accept credit cards but the line tends to get long) and 2) filling out the required forms prior to attending. The forms can be found here: http://webdb.ftcsc.k12.in.us/sites/default/files/FTMS-East/Required%20Forms.pdf If you need anything at all feel free to contact us. We will see you next week!
