Making the Grade - Winter 2014

Posted On: Tuesday, February 25, 2014 - 16:39

The Board of Education voted on February 24 to extend the hours of school day by 10 minutes.  The additional time will be distributed into the master schedules at each school building.  They also approved adding an additional day to the end of the school year for snow make-up days.

The Franklin Township schools missed 7 days of school due to the inclement weather.  The 7 days are being made-up as follows:

DATE MISSED MAKE-UP SOLUTION
January 6 -  State granted waiver of attendance
January 7 -  State granted waiver of attendance
January 8 -  Martin Luther King Holiday used as a make-up
January 9 -  Presidents’ Day Holiday used as a make-up
January 10 - Thursday, May 29 added to the student calendar
January 28 -  Friday, May 30 added to the student calendar
February 5 -  Minutes added to the instructional day to make-up time missed

The adjusted time schedule will begin on March 3 and will continue through May 30, 2014.  Essentially 10 minutes has been added to the END of the regular school day on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.  NOTE THAT THE TIMES FOR WEDNESDAY EARLY RELEASE DAY HAVE NOT CHANGED.  We will continue to follow the PLC schedule that was created at the beginning of the year, including the early release for students so teacher have time for professional development.

Bunker Hill Art Teacher Miss Wuest travels to Haiti every couple of years to volunteer at a school. Each time she goes, she tries to make a connection between Bunker Hill and the school she works with in Haiti. Students took the initiative and are creating individualized coloring books for the students in Haiti. The whole school is behind this incredible project demonstrating their generosity and compassion toward others. Great job Miss Wuest and the Bulldogs!
