Dear Franklin Township Students and Parents,

This is an exciting time in your child’s educational journey and we are excited to share it with them. Among the many great things happening in our classrooms, we are making major advances in the use of technology to help engage our students and provide opportunities otherwise not possible. The district has created an intentional and sustainable plan to provide both the training for our teachers and building staff as well as the hardware and software to support these initiatives and propel our students forward.

Hello TC families! Today was our Brochure Fundraiser Kickoff through Paragon Promotions. There was a fun convocation in the gym that highlighted many of the great items your kiddos can receive for their sales. Your child’s teacher should have sent home the sales packets today. If not, look for them soon. Each packet comes with a welcome letter, a list of the incentives, plus 2 catalogs and an order form. There is a quick start coupon in there as well. When your child sells his/her first three items, they will receive a lanyard with an emoji at school. Any other prizes and orders will be delivered during parent/teacher conferences the first week of October. We are attaching links to the brochures, a copy of the welcome letter and prize incentives. Remember, we do NOT recommend door to door selling. This is a great offer to extend to immediate family and friends. Thank you for your continued support!

Dear Parents, I am so excited to tell you about the Apex Fun Run event that will be at our school for the next two weeks! The Apex program teaches leadership and fitness to our students who will raise pledges for the Fun Run next Thursday, August31st. To help us get started please watch this parent video by the Apex Team - https://vimeo.com/224399946 Please visit www.apexfunrun.com and log on with your students access code to hear about this interactive program that helps schools all over the country raise money, while promoting leadership and fitness in the classes. This year’s character theme is Apex United where students will follow Sam, Rob, Wendy, Robin and Luke who together make up the United Squad. We catch up with our characters while the deceiving Mr. E is constantly testing them. With special powers provided by Omega these five friends will truly learn what it means to be united along with a surprise none of them saw coming. Students are raising pledges for the laps they run (between 26 and 36, 36-lap max). Each lap is 1/16th of a mile. For instance, $1 per lap means $30 dollars total pledged if the student runs 30 laps. Here's the important part! The majority of the funds raised this year will support classroom projects and Fieldtrips. However, the school has promised that an additional 10% of whatever we raise in each class goes directly to that teacher to use in their own classroom. Please help us reach our goal by talking to family and friends about pledging for your student. A great way to do this is to use the “Share Wizard” found on your students pledge page. The Share Wizard is an awesome tool that allows you to send texts, emails and share posts on Facebook and Twitter to help your child get sponsors for the upcoming fun run. If you need your child’s access code to login on www.apexfunrun.com you can contact info@apexfunrun.com or please just reply. I hope to see you at the Fun Run next week!

If you are planning to come view the eclipse with your child on Monday please plan to pre-register so that you aren't stuck waiting in line. We don't want anyone to miss it. Also, please talk to your child this weekend about safely viewing the eclipse with their glasses on. Visitors to our building can now pre-register to come into the building for special programs, volunteering, or lunch. By doing this, the sign in process once in the building should take about 15 seconds. Please note, that if you have pre-registered but have not yet had your picture taken at the school it is required before a tag can be given. If you do not pre-register, you must bring a picture ID. This may cause a delay with getting to your child’s classroom on time. Thanks for your cooperation! Please visit the following website to pre-register. https://secure.safevisitorsolutions.com/Safe/Visitor/franklin000012

Solar Eclipse 2017 Dear Adams Elementary School Families, Monday, August 21, 2017, a total solar eclipse will be visible throughout North America. In Indianapolis, we will experience 94% of the Total Eclipse. This will last approximately 3-4 minutes, starting at 2:24 pm. The eclipse falls on a school day and the students will be able to view the eclipse as a “once in a lifetime” educational opportunity. As a school we have purchased ISO viewing glasses for our students. We know that some parents have reservations about allowing their child to be a part of this event We will provide online viewing for students who do not have a signed permission slip on file. Permission slips are due by Monday morning if you haven't turned it in yet. Note of Caution: According to NASA, looking directly into the sun, is unsafe and can result in temporary or permanent eye damage. NASA advises that the only safe way to look at the uneclipsed or partially eclipsed sun is through special-purpose solar filters, such as “eclipse glasses.” As stated above, the glasses our students are using are ISO certified and were purchased directly from a NASA endorsed supplier. Ordinary sunglasses are NOT safe for this purpose. The school staff will use their best efforts to make sure all students wear the eclipse glasses while viewing the eclipse in its partial stages. Please help us with this effort by explaining to your children the importance of keeping their school provided eclipse glasses on while viewing the eclipse in its partial stages. We will also alter our plan for outside recess on Monday. Parents and guardians are ultimately responsible for their children and should decide whether their children should view the solar eclipse. Since neither you nor I can guarantee your child will not remove their glasses, which can result in eye damage, we are asking your assistance. If you want your child to be a part of this experience, please sign and return the consent form to the school office. Thank you for helping us make the 2017 solar eclipse a safe and enjoyable educational opportunity for Adams Elementary School!
